Law reform to keep brothels free of crime, corruption and danger

Although most brothels have been run as legal businesses for more than ten years, they are still treated differently from other legitimate businesses.

This free public lecture confronts the risks associated with new reforms to the regulation of brothels in NSW. Changes allowing councils to impose conditions on home brothels that owners can't meet could foster growth in illegal operations and the crime and corruption that goes with them. Is law reform the answer?

Penny Crofts

Penny Crofts is a senior lecturer with the UTS Faculty of Law. She has been researching the regulation of the sex industry in NSW for several years and published material dealing with issues in this area. Other research interests include wickedness as a concept used in the law and the link between gambling and crime.
